This score is a ranking based on how natural,
eco-friendly, and non-toxic a product is, and is rated out of a possible total 5 stars.

STARS: 4 1/2 out of 5 stars for naturalness
COMMENTS: This coffee is certified Fair Trade, which helps support farming cooperatives to achieve economic and social freedoms. Though most of Green Mountain Coffee's Fair Trade blends are certified organic, this one is not.

Here is a bit about the origins of this coffee, from the Green Mountain website:

"We frequently turn to the Unión Regional de Pequeños Productores de Café, in Huatusco, Mexico for the coffees in this blend. The cooperative was formed in 1992 by a group of small-scale family farmers who decided to take
responsibility for lifting their community out of the extreme poverty they faced. Their success has been remarkable, and today the coop boasts more than 1,908 small farmers among its members, including 600 women.

The increased revenue that Fair Trade and Organic coffee provides the farmers in this coop has enabled them to establish education facilities in rural areas, and build regional healthcare centers for several villages.

Ecologically-minded, they've also used Fair Trade revenues to fund a reforestation program, while training their members in shade-tree cultivation and terracing, and to improve and expand their organic program, which now includes nearly 500 of its member farmers."

Personal Recommendation

It's so important to buy Fair Trade coffee! By doing so, you are supporting coffee cooperatives that consist of small family farmers that would otherwise be exploited and forced to sell their products far below the market value. It allows small farmers to raise themselves up out of poverty and to value ecological sustainability. Most Fair Trade cooperatives reinvest a portion of their profits into their communities, often building schools, health centers, and community centers- all resources badly needed in their areas.

This coffee is subtle, sweet, and nutty, almost buttery, with hints of vanilla, caramel, cashew, and brazil nuts. Delicious!

Something Else...

This coffee seems to be especially tasty with cream or over vanilla ice cream.
