Sea salt does not contain iodine, which functions in the production of thyroid hormones. According to Northwestern University, one teaspoon of iodized table salt is enough to meet this dietary requirement. If you are using sea salt in place of table salt, please be sure that you are getting iodine from other sources. Other dietary sources of iodine include seafood (clams, lobster, oysters, sardines and ocean fish), drinking water, and dairy products from feed additives as well as from disinfectants used on dairy farms (not a very healthy source).
