The Greater Green Screen Rating

This score is a ranking based on how natural,
eco-friendly, and non-toxic a product is, and is rated out of a possible total 5 stars.

STARS: 4 out of 5 stars for naturalness
COMMENTS: Toilet bowl cleaners are known to be especially toxic, as a means to disinfect them, but it is possible to keep your toilet sparkling clean with a little more frequent cleaning and a non-toxic cleaner, like Seventh Generation's. A once a week scrubbing should be sufficient, and you will save our water systems from countless gallons of ammonia, bleach, toxic antibacterial agents, and other harmful synthetic chemicals.

Added bonus: if you ever have a dog in your house that sneaks a drink out of the toilet every now and then, like we do, then you may feel better knowing that there are no toxic residues leaching into the water. Scary thought, drinking toxic toilet bowl cleaner residue!

Seventh Generation has established itself as a leader in the development of biodegradable, non-toxic, and recycled alternatives to typical household products. You can more about their commitment to the environment by checking out their website:

Refreshing Emerald Cypress & Fir Scent

Ingredients

Aqua (water), polyglucose, coceth-4 and deceth-5 (plant-based cleaning agents), lactic acid (removes mineral deposits), xanthan gum (natural thickener), essential oils and botanical extracts* (citrus aurantifolia (lime), abies balsamea (balsam fir), calilistris columellaris (emerald cypress). *d-limonene is a naturally occurring component of these ingredients.

Personal Recommendation

This a great minty-fresh toilet bowl cleaner. Mint is an aroma that I have come to assoiciate with clean, rather than the bleachy smells of traditional cleaners that used to mean "clean" to me (but which now I find harsh and irritating to my respiratory tract). I have no problems keeping my toilet sparkling clean with a natural cleaner (some people find this surprising), but you do have to make sure you keep to a regular cleaning schedule. (Once a week should keep bacterial, moldy build-up from occurring.)

Because this product contains no bleach, ammonia, or harmful antibacterial agent, you should squirt it into the toilet, swish it around with the brush to cover all surfaces, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, and then come back and give the bowl a good scrubbing.

Something Else...

If you have never used a natural toilet bowl cleaner, you may be surprised to find that you do not really need all those toxic, caustic chemicals to keep your toilet sparkling clean. And it feels great knowing that you have prevented those toxins from entering our water systems!
