This score is a ranking based on how natural, eco-friendly, and non-toxic a product is, and is rated out of a possible total 5 stars.

COMMENTS: This scrub is based on the cleaning power of ash (calcium carbonate) and oxygen bleach, which is an equally effective but much safer alternative to chlorine bleach (hydrogen peroxide is one of three types of oxygen bleach). Check out this article on Oxygen Bleach for more info.

As with many of Mrs' Meyer's products, there is an element of synthetic fragrance (combined with plant-derived essential olis), which brought down the Green Screen score half a star. Otherwise, a very natural and safe product!

Personal Recommendation

As you may have noticed, I am a huge fan of Mrs. Meyer's products. I have yet to find one that I don't like (though some of their products are less natural than others), and this is no exception.

I first tried out this product when I encountered some tough stains on my stovetop and in my shower, which the All-Purpose cleaner and a rag just couldn't get rid of. This scrub is great, and I have never used Comet (which is full of harsh toxins and bleach) again (though I'll be honest, it's still in my cupboard, just in case). Sprinkle it on a surface that needs cleaning, scrub it a little with a damp scouring sponge (I use the yellow/green kind I use for my dishes), let it sit if it's a really tough stain, and then return for a final scrub. Because it's non-toxic, you do not have to worry about thoroughly rinsing- I just wipe down enough to get any of the scrub paste off.

This product is non-abrasive, so it can safely be used on stainless steel, porcelain, pots and pans, ceramic, fiberglass, and cast iron surfaces.
