This is currently my favorite laundry detergent, and has been for nearly 2 years now, for its heavenly scent and its effective cleaning power. Personally, I love geranium, but some of my family members prefer lavender.
My husband is a contractor/installer/outdoorsman who gets extremely dirty, and I am able to successfully remove most of the dirt and grime from his clothes. For my everyday laundry needs, I often add a little baking soda and vinegar (which helps boost cleaning power and acts as a natural softener) to the laundry, and my clothes come out beautifully. I now no longer use any synthetic laundry detergents, even though I have a small bottle of Tide that has been sitting in my cabinet for over a year now (for laundry emergencies that never happened). Mrs. Meyer's has simply been able to handle even our dirtiest clothes!
One of the best things about this laundry detergents, and other natural detergents as well, is that they are not as harsh on clothing as traditional detergents. We always used to use Woolite for delicates, whichalso does not contain harsh phosphates, bleaches, or ammonias. During the last two years, since I started using Mrs. Meyer's Laundry Detergent, my clothes no longer get worn and faded, like they used to from repeated washing. I wash some of my favorite clothing items two or more times a week, and they still look nearly new after literally dozens of washings. It is simply amazing!
It also feels great to know that I am not sending phosphates, bleach, or ammonia into my septic system, while still getting my clothes incredibly clean, even in cold water. We wash everything but whites in cold water, to conserve energy, since the cleaning power comes primarily from the agitation and a good detergent anyway.
NOTE: For sparkling clean whites, you really have to give natural detergents a bit of help (it is, after all, harsh ingredients like bleach that get whites so white). What we do, with great success, is wash whites in hot water, and let them soak for about 2-3 hours after filling the washing machine, before starting the wash cycle. And that gets our whites super-bright! If we have some really tough stains (I do have a very dirty husband, after all), I will use a small amount of bleach in a load of whites (usually no more than a couple times a year).
