COMMENTS: Tiger Balm has been trusted worldwide for nearly a century to relieve aches and pains. They have won numerous awards for their quality products that are safe, effective, and based on herbal formulas.

Tiger Balm, like many muscle rubs, contains camphor, which is derived from the camphorlaurel tree, an evergreen native to Asia. In the personal recommendation area, I give an important warning about not administering Tiger Balm to young children as a safety precaution, that also applies to many herbs and essential oils. Sometimes what is safe and effective for adults can be harmful to young children when it comes to herbal remedies, so use common sense and consult a doctor if you are unsure.

Tiger Balm Muscle Rub has a few more synthetic chemicals in its ingredients list than the White Ointment. After checking them carefully on the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Database, they seem to be relatively harmless, so this product still gets a 4-star rating.

Methyl salicylate, menthol, camphor, cetostearyl alcohol (vegetable wax), methyl cetomacrogol 1000 BP, propyl hydroxybenzoate, purified water, sodium lauryl sulphate, white soft paraffin

Personal Recommendation

When this muscle rub is appied and massaged into the skin, it provides very fast-acting relief. It is similar to the Tiger Balm Ointment, only creamier and non-greasy, and thus easier to apply liberally. It is also formualted to be deep-penetrating for all sorts of muscle strain and stiffness.

Tiger Balm has a menthol-infused scent that I find very pleasant.

My husband carries around a small tin of Tiger Balm White, and we keep this at home to apply before he goes to sleep.
