Personal Recommendation

This soap is about as natural as you can get, with organic and fair trade ingredients, no synthetic chemicals, and the soothing scent of pure organic lavender oil. "Castile" refers to an all-vegetable based soap, as opposed to a soap made using animal fat. The first soap of this kind reportedly comes from the Castille region in Spain, using olive oil as a by-product. You can read more about it here. Also, Wikipedia has an informative entry on castile soap as well.

This is an extremely versatile soap. Dr. Bronner's reports that there are dozens of uses for castile soap, including hand/body washing, general cleaning, laundry, and as a pet shampoo. Though some people do use castile soap as a shampoo for themselves, it can be quite drying, and so I don't really recommend it. You can read more about common uses of castile soap here.

Something Else...

Just a note for those who have extreme sensitivity to citric acid (like my mom), this product does contain citric acid as a preservative.
