For those with sensitivity problems, finding a toothpaste that helps reduce pain and disomfort is so important. I have suffered with extremely sensitive teeth for many years, and for most of them, Sensodyne was my only option. But Sensodyne is high in fluoride, and there have been many warnings about toxicity of fluoride in high doses lately. Tom's of Maine provides an alternative.

This toothpaste relies on potassium nitrate as its sensitivity-reducing ingredient, as do many toothpastes for sensitivity. But unlike those other toothpastes, Tom's has found a naturally-occurring source of potassium nitrate which they believe to be superior to and safer than the synthetically-derived kind found elsewhere. Also, they have taken out fluoride, because of concerns over its safety (read more in The Green Screen Comments).

To be honest, I am an avid user of Tooth Savior Tooth Soap, which has worked miracles for my sensitivity, and have not given Tom's sufficient use to be sure as to its effects. It does however, receive excellent reviews, and it is made by a genuinely green and eco-responsible company that has been doing amazing things for years. So we have decided to carry it in our store, for those who are not brave enough to try Tooth Savior (which is a little.... different....).
