STARS: 5 out of 5
COMMENTS: Recently, talc has been found to be of possible danger to both mom and baby, even though it has been used for centuries. Talc is made of finely ground minerals, and the tiny particulates can be inhaled into the lungs, where they can do harm. Burt's Bees has created a natural solution: a dusting powder based on the absorbent properties of corn starch, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and kaolin, scented with ground flowers and herbs.

Not only is Burt's Bees Disting Powder 99.6% natural, this product also comes in a container that is made of 90% post-consumer recycled plastic. This product has earned a perfect Green Star rating of 5 stars.

In addition to being harmful if inhaled, talc has been reported to possibly contribute to fallopian tube fibrosis and ovarian cancer if introduced into the female reproductive tract. This is of concern for the use of talc as a lubricant on condoms, but also for use on females to soothe irritated skin. The harmful effects of talc were discovered as early as the 1930s from the use of talc as a glove-donning powder. Read more about the dangers of talc by clicking on the following links:

Personal Recommendation

This powder smells heavenly! There are soft floral and fruity undertones, and the powder is so light, leaving your skin feeling soft as silk.

I have been hearing for awhile about the possible dangers of talc, especially for women. There is a possible increased risk of fallopian tube fibrosis and ovarian cancer if talc enters the female reproductive tract. That alone is enough to make me switch to a talc-free powder as a deodorant and moisture-absorber. And when I have children, I will be using Burt's Bees gentle dusting powder for them, as well.

SOMETHING ELSE...

This powder is not just for babies! It works well, especially in the summer, absorbing moisture on the skin, and is soft and soothing right after a shower.
