Ayate cloth is made from 100% agave fiber, grown, harvested, and hand-woven in Mexico

When I lived in Japan I loved the exfoliating body cloths that everyone used when bathing. I could never read the label, but I'm assuming they were made from synthetic materials, probably some kind of plastic. When I returned to the States, I started searching for an exfoliating body cloth that I liked as much, but that had the added benefit of being made of natural fiber. I tried many different cloths, and have finally settled on this ayate cloth.
It starts off as a woven material with fairly large spaces between the fibers, but when it gets wet, the fibers start to tighten and the weave becomes stronger and more durable. The cloth shrinks down to the size of a normal washcloth, and stays that way. It is an exfoliating dream, gently scrubbing your skin, especially wonderful on your back. It is graded as a facial grade exfoliation cloth for even fair skin types.
The cloth also helps soap and body wash to lather up, like many loofahs do.

Ayate cloth softens when wet, is naturally mildew resistant, durable enough for 1 year of daily use, and may be washed in the washing machine with normal laundry.
Made by semi-desert Indians who utilize this versatile plant and fiber for many daily uses. 100% natural.

"I ordered this product in order to replace my not so eco-friendly shower "poofs", but to still benefit from light exfoliation. When I first received it, I was a bit surprised by and skeptical of the coarse texture, but the product description is right on - softens when wet, gentle enough for everyday use and great at exfoliating. Holds lather reasonably well and rinses easily. I have been using it daily for about three weeks now and machine-washed it once."
